"Your Life, but Cooler is a great book for girls to read with their friends. . . . This is a book that can be read and re-read, each time with a different outcome. . . . Along the path to possible stardom, you face numerous questions that test your critical thinking skills, what career you are destined for, and how you handle a crush on a cute guy, to name just a few situations addressed in the quiz. It may not be a scientific evaluation of your personality, but it really makes you consider different situations that you might find yourself in and prepare you for real life situations. Your Life, but Cooler is a great adventure in self-discovery."

"In Crystal Velasquez’s latest book, you not only get to read about a cool, funny, talented girl character, you are the cool, funny, talented gal. It’s written to “you” and YOU get to decide where the story goes! Centered around singing auditions, this book gives you the chance to make decisions about if you will audition for the super-exciting choir solo—and the chance to be on Glee! At the end of each chapter, readers are asked to take a short, fun, personality quiz that determines where the story goes next! Would you forward those chain e-mails? Would you be the girl in a horror movie who runs toward the scary sounds, or away from them? Would you be the one to speak up to defend something that everyone else is tearing down? Questions like these lead you through the novel, making Your Life, but Cooler a fun, quick read. The quizzes not only dictate where the story will go, but they tell you a little bit about yourself, too! Your Life, but Cooler deals with issues of competition, mean girls, boys, taking risks and more. Crystal Velasquez fits comedy, real issues and even some romance in this cute, fun book that any girl is sure to have fun with!"
"In Crystal Velasquez's clever book, Your Life, but Cooler, you are the main character. After every chapter, you decide how the chapter ends by taking a quiz. You then receive a score which will direct you to a certain page in the book. So the story's plot really depends on how YOU act. Some answers will lead you to rejection and humiliation, while others will lead you to fame and fortune. Other decisions are more minor, and on some, either way you go will lead you to something good. However, there's no telling what will lead you where, so tell the truth on the quizzes to enhance your experience! Crystal Velasquez had a very unique idea in making the reader the main character. Even without this aspect, Your Life, but Cooler would still be great, but this made the reader more involved. Interacting with this novel is a great, fun experience, and I'd recommend it for ages eight and older."
"I've always liked the stories where you get to make a
choice in how the character behaves. Tweens should definitely check these books out--they're
just a fun time! I look forward to the next one."
